TMV Replacements Sheffield
TMV Replacements at a Secondary School in Yorkshire
Project Brief
A secondary school in Sheffield had been experiencing persistent issues with low hot water temperatures at various outlets across the site. Despite the central calorifiers maintaining temperatures above 60°C, many taps and basins were delivering cold or lukewarm water. Titan Mechanical Services was asked to investigate. Following an engineering survey, our team quickly identified the problem - several ageing thermostatic mixing valves (TMVs) on site had deteriorated. Their internal check valves had seized, allowing cold mains water to pass through the valves and enter the hot supply. A targeted replacement programme was required to restore the system’s performance and safety.
Solution
Our full turnkey proposal included:
-
Full TMV Condition Survey: Our engineers conducted a detailed inspection of every TMV on site, performing failsafe tests to confirm operational status. This allowed us to identify 22 units that were no longer functioning as intended and posed a risk to both temperature regulation and compliance.
-
Planned Holiday Installation: To avoid disruption to the school’s daily operations, all replacement works were scheduled and carried out during the holiday period. This allowed for uninterrupted access and a streamlined installation process.
-
Modern Valve Replacement: The 22 failed TMVs were removed and replaced with WRAS-approved TMV3 valves. Each installation included pipework adaptations as required, ensuring a secure and compatible fit with the existing system layout.
-
Compliance and Best Practice: All works were delivered in accordance with plumbing industry best practice and ACOP L8 requirements. Our focus was not only on restoring performance, but also on ensuring long-term system compliance and reliability.
Key Benefits Delivered
-
No Disruption: By carrying out the works during the school holidays, the entire installation was completed without affecting staff or students.
-
Temperatures Restored: The site’s hot water temperatures returned to their correct levels, providing safe and consistent delivery at all points of use.
-
Compliance Re-established: With the faulty TMVs removed and modern replacements installed, the school’s hot water system was once again fully compliant with all relevant safety and hygiene standards.
