Ball Valve Replacements at a Data Centre in the South West

Project Brief

A data centre in Swindon was facing ongoing issues with water balancing across four critical tanks that fed various parts of its core systems. The root cause was traced to the original ball valves, which were non-adjustable and offered no means of regulating water levels. With performance and compliance both at risk, the client turned to Titan Mechanical Services to assess the current setup and deliver a specialist solution. The works needed to be completed with zero disruption, due to the continuous nature of the site’s operations.

Solution

Our full turnkey proposal included:

  • Specialist Valve Specification: Following a full site appraisal, each tank was fitted with the most suitable valve for its function - either a WRAS-approved adjustable Keraflo Aylesbury KB-Type float valve or an equilibrium drop arm ball valve. This allowed the client to fine-tune water levels for optimum flow and performance.

  • Weekend Valve Replacement: All works were scheduled and completed over a weekend to avoid interfering with the site’s normal operations. Each of the four tanks was safely drained down, enabling removal of the old ball and float valves without impacting system integrity.

  • Tank Recommissioning: Once the new valves were installed, each tank was cleaned, refilled, disinfected and fully recommissioned. Our team followed confined space entry protocols throughout the project to ensure the highest levels of safety.

  • Compliance and Best Practice: All works were carried out in accordance with ACOP L8 guidance and current plumbing standards. Every valve was installed with long-term reliability and compliance in mind.
