Project Brief
A major university in the southwest was facing serious problems with its water storage infrastructure. A structural assessment revealed extensive deterioration of the internal concrete surfaces of its two large holding tanks. Corroded sparge pipes and passing outlet valves added to the risk, threatening the reliability of the water supply across campus.
Replacing the tanks entirely would have involved significant cost and logistical disruption, particularly given their size and location. With no bypass systems in place, the university needed a solution that could be delivered with minimal downtime — and without exceeding budget. Titan was called in to assess, advise, and deliver a long-term, cost-effective solution.
Solution
Our engineers designed and delivered a carefully phased programme of works to bring the tanks back into full service — without any disruption to supply.

Preliminary Repairs: The passing outlet valves were replaced before any lining works began. This enabled the tanks to be worked on in sequence without interrupting the university’s water supply.

Internal Reline Using Polyurethane: A WRAS-approved polyurethane lining was applied to the internal surfaces of each tank. This product delivers a tough, seamless, and flexible finish designed to protect concrete structures long term. The lining offers 35% elasticity to tolerate structural movement — ideal for older tanks with historical settlement or wear.

Upgrades to Tank Components: New sparge pipes were installed to replace the corroded units and ensure even water distribution, in line with modern standards.

Fully Managed Delivery: The entire programme was handled by our in-house engineers, from planning and compliance checks through to commissioning and sign-off.
