Project Brief
A manufacturing site in Middlesbrough was dealing with a badly leaking GRP sectional water tank located 30 metres above ground level. The tank had been losing water for over two years, with multiple joints failing as the original seals had perished.
Due to its elevated position and the tight space around it, neither repair nor full replacement was feasible. A reline was identified as the only viable long-term solution - but with access being a serious concern, it required a carefully planned approach.
Solution
To safely access and restore the tank without disrupting production, we delivered a fully managed reline project that included:

Safe Access Systems: Scaffolding system erected around the tank, providing secure working access at height.

Sealing the Tank: Leaking joints repaired using specialist fibreglass products, designed to be both tough and flexible - ideal for GRP tanks of this nature.

Polyurethane Relining: Full internal reline applied, using two coats of WRAS-approved polyurethane to restore compliance and water hygiene standards.

Minimal Disruption: Project timed over a long bank holiday weekend, starting Thursday night to reduce disruption.Efficient scheduling meant the 5-day project resulted in just 8 hours of actual downtime, keeping the manufacturing process on track throughout.
