GRP Water Tank Replacement London
GRP Water Tank Replacement at Pharmaceutical Site in London
Project Brief
A major pharmaceutical site in London was facing persistent issues with its existing GRP sectional water tank. The tank had poor access, which made regular inspections and maintenance time-consuming and awkward. Internally, the tank walls were badly stained, and minor leaks were beginning to appear.
The real problem, however, lay in the tank’s design - it was a single-compartment unit. Every time it needed cleaning or remedial work, the entire water supply had to be shut off, halting a critical part of the site’s process. Given the nature of the facility, this wasn’t sustainable. The client needed a cold water storage solution that met modern compliance standards, reduced disruption, and allowed servicing without interrupting operations.
Solution
With the tank causing major issues on site, the client needed our support in developing a project plan that met the needs of the various stakeholders. After many months of work, our team created a clear plan that met with the approval of the various teams involved, and the project was able to commence.
Our full turnkey proposal included:
-
Temporary supply: A bypass system was installed to maintain water supply throughout the works. This was done via prefabricated connections that were prepared in advance. In doing so, this reduced the time it took to switch over to the new supply from the expected two days, to around two hours, avoiding costly process interruptions.
-
Full removal of the existing GRP tank: This included the safe decommissioning and dismantling of the existing tank structure, and it's base.
-
New Base: Base levelling steels were installed to provide a stable, level foundation for the new installation.
-
Supply and Installation of GRP Sectional Tank: A new 4.5m x 2m x 2.5m GRP sectional tank installed, which included low level side access panels, ensuring the new tank met all current water hygiene and WRAS compliance standards.
-
Specialist Design Considerations: Internal dividing wall included, creating a dual-compartment tank for continuous service during maintenance.
-
Health & Safety: Strict health and safety procedures followed, including confined space protocols and detailed risk management due to the pharmaceutical environment.
Key Benefits Delivered
-
Enhanced Compliance: A fully compliant GRP sectional tank was installed, designed for water hygiene and operational reliability, providing improved long-term compliance in a high-risk, high-performance environment.
-
Minimal Disruption: The bespoke prefabricated bypass system created for the change over to the temporary supply saved the client dozens of hours worth of downtime, saving money and increasing operational output.
-
Future Proof Design: The new tank includes side access panels for safer, quicker maintenance access. The twin-compartment design also allows for service to be maintained uninterrupted during future cleaning or inspection works.
