Sectional Water Tank Replacement Newcastle
Sectional Water Tank Replacement at a Hospital in the North East
Project Brief
Titan were asked to support a Hospital in the North East of England, which faced a significant challenge with its ageing water storage infrastructure. The existing GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) water tank had developed multiple leaks, and the internal steel support bars exhibited severe corrosion. This deterioration posed substantial health and safety risks and threatened the hospital's continuous water supply, essential for patient care and daily operations.
Complicating matters, the hospital lacked a bypass system, making any tank replacement a potential disruption to its 24/7 operations. A meticulously planned solution was imperative to ensure compliance, reliability, and minimal disruption.
Solutions
To address these challenges, our team developed and implemented a comprehensive plan.
Our full turnkey solution included:
-
Temporary Bypass Installation: A bespoke bypass system was installed to ensure a continuous water supply throughout the replacement process.
-
Safe Decommissioning: The old, compromised tank was carefully dismantled and removed, adhering to all safety protocols.
-
New GRP Sectional Tank Installation: A modern, WRAS-approved GRP sectional tank was erected, designed to meet the hospital's specific requirements.
-
Enhanced Access: Low-level access hatches and internal/external ladders were incorporated for improved maintenance accessibility.
-
Improved Compliance: A Type AA air-gap was installed to enhance compliance with backflow prevention regulations.
-
Commissioning and Integration: Following successful testing, the new tank was fully integrated into the hospital's water supply network, and the temporary bypass was removed.
Key Benefits Delivered
-
Uninterrupted Water Supply: The hospital continued its operations without any water supply disruptions during the entire replacement process.
-
Improved Safety and Compliance: The new tank meets all current potable water storage regulations, significantly reducing health and safety risks.
