Project Brief
Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool encountered a critical issue with one of its GRP sectional water tanks - a relatively new unit, installed just six years earlier. Despite its age, the tank had developed multiple leaks, particularly around its base, which were traced back to installation defects during an engineering survey.
Given the tank’s importance in maintaining the hospital’s water supply, and the added challenges of working in a live clinical environment, time was of the essence. Full replacement wasn’t financially feasible due to the tank’s size and location, so Titan was brought in to deliver a more practical, long-term solution, without disrupting patient care.
Solution
Our engineering team delivered a complete in-situ repair and reline programme designed to restore full functionality to the leaking tank. Our full turnkey proposal included:

Leak Identification and Sealing: A thorough inspection was carried out to pinpoint the exact origin of all leaks. These areas were then repaired using high-performance fibreglass materials, restoring the tank’s integrity before relining.

Polyurethane Reline Application: The internal surfaces were relined using a WRAS-approved polyurethane coating. This tough, seamless, and flexible finish is engineered for long-term performance in water-retaining environments, especially critical systems in healthcare settings.

Disinfection and Recommissioning: Once the relining was complete, the tank was fully disinfected and recommissioned back into service by our in-house team, ensuring compliance and peace of mind.
