Steel Water Tank Reline Edinburgh
Reline of a Steel Water Tank at a Manufacturing Site in Scotland

Project Brief
When a routine inspection revealed severe internal corrosion in a galvanized steel water tank at a manufacturing facility, the site was faced with a potentially serious problem. The tank was in continuous 24/7 use, supplying the majority of the building, and its deteriorated condition placed the entire water system at imminent risk of failure.
Replacing the tank outright was not feasible due to space constraints in the plantroom and budget limitations. What the site needed was a cost-effective solution that would minimise disruption and deliver a long-lasting result. Titan was called in to assess the situation and implement a fast, reliable remedy to avoid downtime and loss of production at the facility.
Solution
Our team responded promptly and implemented a structured plan to reline the tank and restore full function without disrupting the facility's day-to-day operations.
-
Temporary Tank Installation: A compact temporary tank was installed and commissioned in the limited space within the plant room, allowing the main tank to be taken offline without affecting the site’s water supply.
-
Internal Preparation & Reline: The original steel tank was drained, thoroughly cleaned, and prepared before a WRAS-approved polyurethane lining system was applied. This provided a new internal barrier to prevent further corrosion and extend the tank’s service life.
-
Efficiency Upgrades: A new ball valve was installed for more accurate water level control, as well as a side access panel, allowing more efficient and safe access to the tank for future maintenance work.
-
Turnkey Delivery: All works were carried out by our in-house engineering team, ensuring smooth communication and clear accountability throughout the project.
-
Swift Completion: The full programme, from initial survey to completion, was delivered in under four weeks — well ahead of any failure event that could have led to production disruption or site closure.
Key Benefits Delivered
-
No Disruption to Production: Services remained fully operational while the tank was taken offline and repaired.
-
Full Compliance and Protection: The new lining meets industry standards and provides peace of mind with a 10-year guarantee.
-
Cost-Effective Alternative to Replacement: By relining rather than replacing the tank, the client saved on both materials and logistics, especially valuable in the tight plant room.
