What Should You Do If Legionella Is Detected?
If Legionella is detected in your water system, the following steps should be taken:

Isolate the affected system: Prevent water from flowing into or out of the affected system, including shutting off valves, to prevent the spread of Legionella to other parts of the building.

Conduct an outbreak investigation: Identify the source and extent of the contamination, and assess the risk to building occupants and the public.

Develop a plan of action: Based on the results of the investigation, develop a plan for removing the contamination, decontaminating the system, and controlling future growth of Legionella.

Implement the plan: Decontaminate the affected system, including flushing and cleaning, and implement control measures to prevent future growth of Legionella.

Monitor and maintain the system: Regularly monitor the water system to ensure it remains free of Legionella, and maintain the control measures in place to prevent future outbreaks.
